SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
"I kept dreaming of a world I’d never see. And then, one day, I got in."
These prophetic lines are recited by Jeff Bridges in the second track "The Grid" of this album. And these visionary words will resonate through your mind as you listen to the rest of this addictive soundtrack from the Joseph Kosinski directed sci fi film. Such is the allurement of the score composed and produced by electronic music duo Daft Punk.
From the get go of the 58 minute album, "Overture" sets the mood with its solemn and gallant main theme. The gravity of this tune will serve as the overarching disposition of the tracks to come.
The score features an 85 piece orchestra, and blends orchestra and electronic elements to heart stopping effect. The balance of contemporary synth music and grand orchestral music will draw you into a world that the filmmakers have imagined – one that leaves you hypnotized with technology, neon lights and futuristic elements.
Tracks like "Armory", "Arena" and "Rinzler" are energetically composed, with pounding rhythms that will set pulses racing. On the other end of the spectrum, there are valiantly beautiful tracks like "Adagio for Tron" and "Nocturne", which create moments which are nothing less than epic.
The French duo (Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter) is well known for its elaborate live music shows which incorporate dazzling visual elements. Most active during the late 1990s, the Grammy Award winning group is reintroduced to today’s listeners with this soundtrack. There are several other editions out there with 20 odd minutes of exclusive music – go hunt them down if you feel the compulsion to own all of them.
Indeed, director Kosinski was farsighted enough to engage Daft Punk for his debut feature film project, because the duo has brought much of the needed style to the highly anticipated film. Listen out for "Derezzed", a classic Daft Punk tune which will blow your senses away. The following track "Fall" will also send you into a sensory high. After the throbbing "Disc Wars" and "Tron Legacy (End Titles)", the album aptly concludes with the valiant "Finale", drawing a close to this awe inspiring listening experience.
One can only imagine how captivating if Daft Punk were to perform this soundtrack score 'live' in front of a million fans. It’ll be a world which we would want to plunge in immediately.
