REVIEW
Sadly,
the soundtrack for a movie starring Justin Timberlake does
not include his lovesounds and no hint of his sexy back. Instead
what we get is Tech N9ne, the independent rap mogul from Kansas.
He lent his muscles for four tracks in this album, including
a schizophrenic number featuring Gina Cassavetes, daughter
of the Alpha Dog director. Tech N9ne also rounds off the 22
tracks in this album with the respectable Bollywoodish Night
and Day.
Other
respectable performances include Eva Cassidy’s misfit
“Over the Rainbow”, which headlined both the movie
and soundtrack, LaZarus’ “Enemy and I” as
well as Citizen Cope’s “Bullet & a Target”.
However, synthesized beats and gunshots-accompanied grumbling
can only last about as long as one episode of Xzibit’s
“Pimp my Ride” – that’s about 30 minutes.
This massive album shot itself in the foot with too many sound
vignettes and half-baked raps from the movie that diluted
the focused energy premised by the album.
