REVIEW
Even
before we review this soundtrack album, we are sure that they
will be flying off the shelves in music stores. Who can resist
adorable tap-dancing penguins? Not only do they tappity-tap-tap
to the music, they sing along to the soaring tunes too - in
voices that sound like Robin Williams, Nicole Kidman, Hugh
Jackman and Brittany Murphy! This
48-minute album features music from the charmingly joyful
movie, and includes tracks performed by popular artistes like
Prince, Pink and The Beach Boys.
Though
these songs are very accessible, they are somewhat forgettable
as well. The tracks which you will be listening out for are
those sung by the lovable penguins in the movie.
Thanks
to strong marketing from the feature’s teaser trailers,
we predict that The Brand New Heavies’ catchy “Jump
n’ Move” and Robin Williams’ Latino rendition
of “My Way” will be on repeat mode more than the
other songs.
But there
are a few other tracks worth checking out in this soundtrack.
Brittany Murphy sings beautifully in the diva-styled “Somebody
To Love” and the rhythm-driven “Boogie Wonderland”.
And the folks from Down Under Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman
perform a “Moulin Rouge”-like duet, where they
pit their vocals against each other in “Kiss”
and “Heartbreak Hotel”. A true gem indeed.
Closing
the disc is a 5-odd minute score medley written by the talented
John Powell. Having visited Ice Age: The Meltdown (does he
has a thing for cold climates or what?) earlier this year,
Powell gracefully composes a highly energetic piece that features
acoustics, jazz, samba and a powerful chorus.
While
we hear that a score album by Powell will be released later
this year, we shall be contented with these singing penguins
in the meantime. Although they may have cold feet, you can
be assured that they are happy, like the general feel of the
album.
It
certainly helps that they are one bunch of entertaining fowl.
