REVIEW
The
Hollywoodland soundtrack may be a safe collection, but it
is nothing if not authentic. For the uninitiated like me,
I find this compilation of 50’s music a comprehensive
one, featuring the classics like The Platters’ “The
Great Pretender” and several chart-toppers as well as
some snazzy instrumental pieces. I particularly liked Frankie
Laine's 40’s hit "On the Sunny Side of the Street",
Conway Twitty's guttural "It's Only Make Believe"
and Little Richard's feet-thumping "The Girl Can't Help
It"
For
a movie soundtrack, this album manages to create a thick atmosphere
of the mood of the day back in the 50’s and it complemented
the movie perfectly. Well I guess it’s official: I liked
50’s music.
