SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
To the uninitiated, this soundtrack album is probably a money milking ploy by Disney to get young girls (who want to be Hannah Montana) or boys (who find Miley Cyrus really sweet) to fish out cash from their wallets to purchase this disc. The somewhat bland CD cover design aside, we can assure you that the tunes on this album are pleasantly soothing to the ears – whether you have any idea who Hannah Montana is or not.
A phenomenal hit on Disney Channel, the TV series is given a big screen treatment (remember that small TV movie High School Musical?) where our heroine has to choose between her life as a superstar (Hannah Montana) or an average teenager (Miley Stewart). While the trailer looks surprisingly promising (wholesome Disney stuff), this soundtrack album featuring 14 new songs can stand alone without you having to fork out extra money to watch the movie.
Do not be confused by the performer names “Miley Cyrus” and “Hannah Montana” on the track listing – they are the same person. Of course, the up and coming Disney star is no powerhouse singer when it comes to vocals, but the radio friendly voice and music will do to chase those Monday blues away. There is also a nice variety of music genre here: The high energy in songs like “You’ll Always Find Your Way Home”, “Let’s Get Crazy”, “The Good Life” and the familiar “The Best of Both Worlds: The 2009 Movie Mix” will perk up your mood on a lazy day, while slower songs like “The Climb” and the duet with Cyrus’ real life father Billy Ray “Butterfly Fly Away” will soothe those gentle nerves.
Other artistes like Steve Rushton, Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts also contribute agreeable songs to this movie soundtrack. Be it Rushton’s soulful “Everything I Want”, Swift’s showy “Crazier” or country band Rascal Flatts’ relaxing “Bless The Broken Road”, there is something for everyone – and you don’t need to lead double lives like Hannah Montana to enjoy the best of not just both, but many kinds of music represented on this album.
