SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
This reviewer does not know of any exceptions, but this much
awaited chick flick (the name says it all already) is probably
going to be enjoyed by our female counterparts more than,
well, someone easily excited by car chases and explosions.
Similarly, we would expect the soundtrack of the movie to
appeal to most females than males. There are 59 minutes of
eclectic music on this compilation, and it ranges from your
regular bubblegum pop, heart thumping techno, old school classic
rock, and some prissy fun music which you can play at your
next all girls night out.
You
can almost imagine the girls bobbing to Fergie’s “Labels
or Love”. The catchy and upbeat tune is so radio friendly
- we’d think some girls would live by it for at least
a few months down the road. After singing her heart out in
2006’s Dreamgirls. Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson croons
to the tune of “All Dressed in Love”, never missing
a note or a beat. The diva really has got what it takes, and
you know you have got it all when you have love and clothes
to make your life perfect: You go, girl.
Elsewhere,
Welsh singer songwriter Duffy performs the energetic “Mercy”
and American rhythm and blues musician India Arie performs
the soothing remake of Don Henley’s “The Heart
of the Matter”.
There
are also interesting renditions of familiar tunes like “The
Look of Love” (acclaimed jazz musician Nina Simone does
a seductive job here), “How Deep is Your Love”
(alternative pop duo The Bird and the Bee gives a breezy and
fresh performance here) and “auld Lang Syne” (Mairi
Campbell and Dave Francis are almost perfect here).
Go
on, girls. You know you want to pop this soundtrack into the
player, kick up those manalos of yours and chill the night
away. Oh, maybe you’d want to call a guy or two over
as well.
