SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
This is a must have for any fan of English band The Rolling
Stones. The influential band which was immensely popular during
the 1960s created an unstoppable wave of British invasion
in America some 40 years ago, and have since made their mark
in music history. In 2006, award winning director Martin Scorsese
Martin Scorsese shot the band over a two-day period at the
Beacon Theater in New York City. This deluxe two disc edition
soundtrack is a collection of 23 songs featured in the documentary.
Highlights include duets with the popular Christina Aguilera,
The White Stripes’ lead vocalist Jack White III and
blues and rock musician Buddy Guy.
“Loving
Cup” displays the good chemistry between the Stones
and the talented alternative music record producer and occasional
actor. “Champagne & Reefer” performed with
the Grammy Award winner is a good old grooving tune that will
rock your senses. “Live with Me” is a powerfully
executed track made possible by Aguilera’s potent vocals.
The
101 minutes of music spread over the two discs will remind
die hard fans why they love the Stones. The constant energy
of the loudly entertaining songs will appeal to younger listeners
who like their music with lots of oomph. The rawness of the
music will either have you wanting more or give you a headache,
depending on your preference for music. The soundtrack is
rough and furious, and it is not apologetic about it.
Let’s
see, The Rolling Stones have released more than 40 studio
albums in both the UK in the US, more than 10 concert albums
in these two regions and numerous other compilations. The
band has also had 32 UK & US top-10 singles, 43 UK &
US top-10 albums and have sold more than 200 million albums
worldwide. Each member of the Stones is over 60 years old.
Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood
– we take our hats off you.
