SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
There
is a reason why this CD has the words "The Movie Soundtrack
Party Album" printed on its cover. This is no ordinary
soundtrack for you to play on a lazy weekend afternoon (we
dare you to play it in your quiet neighbourhood, but you’d
have to brave the consequences yourself), because it’s
shamelessly pink cover is a clear indication that the 60 minutes
of music on this album spells “b-u-b-b-l-e-g-u-m p-o-p”.
Kicking
off the girlishly energetic is Rihanna’s "Shut
Up and Drive". You should be familiar with the Barbadian
singer’s 'umbrella-ella-ella' antics, so her 'shut up
and drive-ive-ive' chants here shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Following that are 2007’s breakthrough artistes Ida
Corr and Fedde Le Grand’s "Let Me Think About It".
Seriously, this European remix boasts of techno beats so strong,
we wouldn’t recommend it to the faint hearted.
The
oomph doesn’t stop there. Brace yourself for more girlish
fun with Sugagbabes’ thumping "About You Now",
Nelly Furtado’s pounding "Say It Right" and
Girls Aloud’s very chic "Can’t Speak French".
Elsewhere,
party your socks off with hypnotic bash tunes like the psychedelic
"Heartbreaker" performed by will.i.am and Cheryl
Cole, the silly but sweet "Sweet About Me" sung
by Gabriella Cilmi and the magnetically headache inducing
"Come Around" rapped by Timbaland and Mia.
The
soundtrack album may not offer anything new or insightful,
but if your daughter is looking for a CD to have a wild party
time with her friends, then this is the perfect disc to get.
Everything wraps up nicely with the last track performed by
English pop band Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding. "Real
Wild Child" is a catchy tune which tells you everything
you need to know about being a wild child: "I’m
a real wild one/ And I like a wild fun/ In a world gone crazy/
Everything seems hazy/ I’m a wild one/ Ooh yeah I’m
a wild one".
