SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
This is one soundtrack which would appeal to the ladies, we are sure. The soft and poetic album cover aside, you know the 12 tracks on this album are meant for the sentimental when you see titles like “Feels Like Home”, “Don’t Wanna Cry”, “Life Is Beautiful” and “Carry You Home”. Like the inspiring novel which challenge viewers’ perceptions of love and loyalty, and giving new meaning to the act of healing, the songs on this soundtrack have their own healing power – perfect for listening when you are feeling down and out.
English singer songwriter sets the mood with the breezy “Feels Like Home”, before the melancholic “Don’t Wanna Cry” by American musician guitarist Peter Yorn. The talented Regina Spektor puts her unique voice to apt use with “Better”, while Vega 4’s “Life Is Beautiful” adds a pleasant touch of soft rock to the album.
Besides “You’re Beautiful”, English singer songwriter James Blunt’s “Carry You Home” is also a gorgeous ballad meant to strike a chord with your heartstrings. The mellowness doesn’t stop there. Check out Jeff Buckley’s cover of Elton John's "We All Fall in Love Sometimes". The fact that this American musician drowned during an evening swim makes this listen even more heartfelt.
Greg Laswell’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” and Priscilla Ann’s “Find My Way Back Home” are light hearted without being trivial. This makes the listening experience a little less downbeat. And the rest of the album isn’t going to offer you any rollicking tunes either: Jonah Johnson’s “With You”, E.G. Daily’s “Life Is Just A Bowl of Cherries”, Jimmy Scott’s “Heaven” and a solemn hymn of “Amazing Grace” are anything but jolly.
Yes, this is a soundtrack for those who want to get a grip on their feelings and emotions. Macho guys – you’d probably have avoided the novel and the movie at all costs already, and if your idea of music is one noisy affair, then we are advising you to stay clear.
