SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
Admit it - you were impressed when you first saw the movie
trailer for the worldwide phenomenon that is High School Musical,
especially when Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) stood up to sing
lovingly: “You can do it/ Just know that I believe”
in the crowded spectator stand. And that is when you know
you have to own the soundtrack album for this musical experience
of a generation.
The
10 songs written for this third movie are evidently bigger,
better, catchier and are obvious opportunities for elaborate
dance choreography and impressive set designs.
The
51 minute soundtrack opens with the energetic “Now Or
Never” which is performed during the movie’s opening
sequence where everyone’s favourite high school jock
Troy plays an important basketball match and gets support
from his teammates, his schoolmates and his soul mate Gabriella.
Other high octane tunes include “I Want It All”
(a Broadway style cue for Sharpay and Ryan to showcase their
stage flair) and “The Boys Are Back” (a nifty
song for Troy and Chad to execute some killer moves in the
car junkyard).
You
may think that this album is a money milking machine target
at kids between 6 and 16. But upon listening to the well produced
and brightly dazzling music, there’s something to take
away, whether you are 26 or 36. The music extravaganza “A
Night To Remember” brings back fond memories of the
graduation prom, while the saccharine sweet ballad “Just
Wanna Be With You” is an ode to that puppy crush you
had years ago.
After
“Bet On It” in the last soundtrack, Troy continues
his angst in “Scream”, and Grabriella has her
own unofficial sequel tune “Walk Away” after “Gotta
Go My Own Way”. The soundtrack ends on an affecting
note with “High School Musical”, a tune which
will have fans and converts missing the East High School gang.
The
2 disc premiere edition also includes a DVD which brings you
behind the scenes of the movie with a generous 38 minute documentary.
Follow the gang as they rehearse dance moves and talk about
being part of this picture. Yes, this movie is not just a
movie anymore. To be part of this cultural phenomenon, go
get this soundtrack album – now.
