ALBUM REVIEW:
We have listened to quite a few soundtracks of romantic comedies before this, and one thing common is how there is nothing specifically outstanding about them (how innovative can such compilations get?). Not to fret though, because every single of these albums have been enjoyable experiences, and if it’s of any consolation, we’d rather be listening to soundtracks like these, rather than listening to a radio deejay chatter non stop about things which do not interest us, before he finally decides to play a song.
So here we have the soundtrack to a romantic comedy about a guy and a girl (they have to be good looking, of course) who try to keep their love alive while they travel to and from New York and San Francisco to see one another. And there you have it, a distinct flavour to mark the style of this disc – contemporary music with catchy tunes.
Radio friendly? Check. A lineup of familiar names in the pop music industry? Check. Music to listen to while driving with your loved one in the car? Check.
The 59 minute album kicks off with The Generationals’ “Either Way”, a track which defines the liveliness and energy of young couples in love today. Following that is indie pop rock group Georgie James’ “Places”, a fun track to dance to. Grammy nominated Katie Herzig’s cutesy “Hey Na Na”, Albert Hammond Jr.’s (from garage rock band The Strokes) trippy “In Transit” and English rock band The Cure’s likable “Just Like Heaven” also make up the pleasing repertoire of songs.
Elsewhere, listen out for songs performed by American singer songwriter Cat Power, popular rock bands Eels and The Replacements. Alternative UK alternative rock band also performs two of the best tracks on this album, “Spitting Fire” and “If You Run”.
Play this album on your player when you are in need of some chill out time with your loved one.
