ALBUM REVIEW:
The movie is about a drummer who was unceremoniously kicked
out of his band and getting a second chance at fame when his
nephew’s high school rock band wants to look for a new
drummer. The movie soundtrack album features a substantial
amount of music performed by one of the picture’s stars
Teddy Geiger. The album cover of this comedy features this
not so glamorous rocker decked only in his ridiculous looking
briefs. We are thankful that guy isn’t Geiger, or else
it may just mar our listening experience of this otherwise
very accessible soundtrack.
Geiger,
a 19 year old American singer songwriter performs nine tracks
on this 39 minute album. Kicking off the disc is the catchy
"Tomorrow Never Comes", followed by the similarly
catchy "Bitter", and then the equally catchy "Living
For The First Time" and the likewise catchy "Down".
Err,
we guess you get the idea by now.
These
radio friendly tunes are easy on the ears, and Geiger’s
pop rock vocals will have you tapping your feet to the, well,
catchy melodies. You can almost imaging the talented New York
born singer belting out these tunes at a concert to thousands
of screaming fans. And from what we know, this guy is one
talented dude who plays the guitar, bass, piano, drums and
trombone – now imagine him playing all these instruments
at the concert.
Other
than a three odd minute score suite composed by Chad Fischer
(Little Manhattan, Garden State), "Promised Land"
and "Pompeii Nights" are tracks performed by Vesuvius,
a fictional band created for the movie. Maybe it’s this
reviewer’s lack of appreciation for rock musicians,
but after seeing what they look like inside the CD sleeve,
we prefer a good looker like Geiger (in case you don’t
know by now, he’s the one on the left wearing a geeky
long sleeved stripe shirt). Same goes for the genre of music
too.
