ALBUM REVIEW:
How’s this for a double deal – having Christina Aguilera and Cher coming together for a musical film about a small town girl who finds her place at a Los Angeles neo burlesque club. And it is only natural that all ears will be on the soundtrack album of this Golden Globe nominated film. Music lovers are in for a treat, because a 31 minute powerhouse listening experience is in store for them.
The 10 track album makes a grand entrance with Aguilera’s “Something’s Got A Hold On Me”, and you have to give it to the New York born artiste for her great pair of pipes. She continues to impress us with her amazing vocals in “Tough Love”, a tune dripping with raw energy, before turning all playful in the cheekily composed “But I Am A Good Girl”.
The jazzy “Guy What Takes His Time” follows, proving Aguilera’s versatility for different genres. Before you know it, the stage is set for the album’s biggest and most spectacular number “Express” – one can imagine the multi talented songstress hitting the stage with big moves and bigger vocals. The Golden Globe nominated “Bound to You”, the soulful “Show Me How You Burlesque” and radio friendly “The Beautiful People (from Burlesque)” are also great testaments to how Aguilera is one of the greatest performers of our time.
And don’t think we have forgotten about the Goddess of Pop Cher. The multi award winner has two contributions on this album: “Welcome to Burlesque” and the film’s second Golden Globe nominated song “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me”. The latter is an emotionally engaging song which showcases Cher’s well know deep contralto vocal range. You can almost feel a tear running down your cheeks as the prominent performer belts out her soul in the heart wrenching tune.
If we had our way, we’d wish that the soundtrack would contain more performances by these two singers, and oh, it would be any music lover’s dream come true if there was a duet between the two ladies.
