SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
Evan Almighty is a movie about a certain being called God
who summons a certain common folk to build an ark. The soundtrack
album to this godly movie does contain some godly music, if
you were expecting any.
There
is a mishmash of genres ranging from gospel to rock, and the
radio-friendly tunes should please the casual listener.
Opening
the 57-minute disc is LeAnn Rimes’ “Ready For
A Miracle”, which will rock your world with its strong
backup vocal choir and Rimes’ voice. Those who only
know the country singer’s “Can’t Fight The
Moonlight” will be pleasantly surprised by how versatile
she actually is.
Then
there is the catchy “Have You Seen The Rain” performed
by the multi-talented and musically-inclined John Fogerty
(he plays the piano, harmonica, bass and guitar!), the holy-sounding
“This Land Is Your Land” performed by The Mike
Curb Congregation and the hip-hop “Never Give Up”
by Tracy Edmond.
Elsewhere,
there are also two renditions of the songs “Revolution”
and “Sharp Dressed Man” each by four different
artistes. We’d think this is for variation on the album,
if not for anything else.
Of
the 16 tracks on the soundtrack, more than half of the songs
do not appear in the movie. But judging by words like “Jesus”,
“The Lord” and other Christian-inclined phrases
in the lyrics of the songs, you’d be inspired to be
one godly being with this pleasant compilation of tunes.
