SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
The only group of people who would enjoy the music on this
soundtrack is probably, yes, you’ve guessed it –
brats.
There
are 71 very generous minutes of songs on this album and every
one of the 21 tracks oozes with girly pop that will appeal
to the young and trendy. To the older listeners, the catchy
and unsubstantial radio-friendly tunes will wear off after
a while.
From Prima J’s likeable “Rock Star” and
Brick and Lace’s thumping “Love Is Wicked”,
to Joanna’s attempt at melancholy in “Out From
Under” and Matt White’s attempt at soul in “Saying
Goodbye”, there is something to hum along for everyone
if you decide to rip all the songs into your mobile music
player.
I have
not watched the movie, but judging by the Bratz toys which
I have seen in toy stores, the Sean McNamara-directed flick
will be one where the girls always have their ways just by
pouting in their loud fashion and accessories.
Not a
very nice attitude, if you ask me.
Of course,
throw in some more popular artistes like Ashlee Simpson and
Lifehouse to perform “we-advocate-girl-power”
songs like “Invisible” and expressive tunes like
“If This Is Goodbye”, and you’d have a movie
which will attract young girls who think it’s cool to
be, well, brats.
Concluding
the disc is a very apt “Bratitude” performed by
The Bratz themselves, and upon listening to the trashy and
silly song that tries so hard to be cool, you’d realize
that brats will be brats.
