SYNOPSIS:
Jone
Bang Fai is a young man riddled with grief and bent on revenge
after witnessing his parents’ murder by a malicious
killer. The only information Jone has of the killer’s
identity is the memory of a tattoo-covered man who is a cattle
rustler. Jone makes it his mission to stop all cattle rustlers
and return the cattle back to its rightful owner.
After
much searching, Jone believes he has found the murderer. He
learns that the killer is a sorcerer of immense power, a mystical
man with almost no weaknesses and he is trying to control
the whole village. As Jone learns the evil counterpart has
one weakness, if the menstrual blood of a young virgin is
harnessed, it can be blended with weapons to kill him. Armed
with this knowledge, the hero goes up against one of the most
dangerous men to have ever walked the Earth…
MOVIE REVIEW:
Imagine this: A romantic moment in the fields. A guy asks
a girl whether she is still a virgin. He asks whether he can
have her menstrual blood so that he can seek revenge on an
enemy. She feels offended and storms off immediately. If you
were the girl, you would too.
But
this is exactly what makes this Thai flick click – the
nonsensical and outrageous moments littered throughout its
103-minute duration.
The
plot is enough to make you guffaw: A man known as the Dynamite
Warrior has to stop the bad guys from stealing all the buffaloes
which are obstacles to a technological revolution of mechanized
ploughs. He also has to kill off the bad guy who murdered
his parents. And what does he have for weapons? Dynamites
– which he sends flying off to the villains, and beat
this, he even rides on them like a surfboard.
Looks
like what director Chalerm Wongpin wants is to have a good
time making his characters do the silliest things. But hey,
he did win a best Director Award at the recent Thailand National
Film Association Awards for this movie.
Dan
Chupong (Born to Fight, Ong Bak) plays the titular hero, displaying
his impressive Muay Thai skills by kicking and punching the
bad guys with some serious force. His decent looks make good
eye candy for the girls too.
As
an action flick, this Thai movie does serve up some nice moments
with chases on carriages, loud explosions and Muay Thai boxing.
The dynamites in question are computer generated, and may
induce laughs instead of fear. However, with other sequences
of a comical Black Wizard, an effeminate Lord Wang and a strange
monkey man, it is difficult to take this movie seriously.
It’s
not everyday we get someone surfing on dynamites after asking
a girl for her menstrual blood.
