SYNOPSIS:
A group of teenagers embark on a treacherous journey by hot
air balloon into the deepest, darkest depths of the Thai rainforest
in search of their friend Pana, an avid filmmaker and conservationist
who has mysteriously gone missing. A storm rips through the
balloon forcing it to make a crash landing in the middle of
the rainforest. With the storm raging around them, the group
decides to take cover inside what appears to be an abandoned
cave. Unbeknownst to them, the cave hides a terrible secret.
It is the lair of a giant snake that doesn't take kindly to
trespassers. One by one, the giant reptile devours the unsuspecting
intruders, gorging itself on their fresh and tasty meat. Will
any of them survive the terror of "Boa"?

REVIEW
“Anacondas”
might be your first impression of “Boa” when you
chanced upon the cover. Put the issue of the cheesy cover
aside, before you slot this disc to your player, I suggest
you discard any thoughts of Boa’s counterpart in the
west and see what the Thai filmmakers have to offer.
The
story is simple and predictable enough. A group of teenagers
(you don’t get adults nowadays, perhaps it’s cheaper
to hire youngsters) decides to venture into a dense rainforest
in search of their lost friend but ended up encountering a
huge snake devouring them one after another. The latter I
suppose summarises the whole movie. Our main lead, let’s
called it the huge snake appears at the 30 minutes mark.
Unfortunately,
instead of scaring you off, the poorly rendered CG reptilian
slide it’s way on land and water liked an actor who
has yet honed his skills. It’s a pity since this Thai
production boasts excellent exotic location with lush forests
and rivers, a la the Amazon.
Although
the CG effects are a stark contrast to Hollywood, one still
got to take their hats off the Thai for their brave attempt
in exploring various genres.
Our
generation of moviegoers might shoo “Boa” off
but consider playing this disc for your parents, you might
have a different perspective of things.
