REVIEW
In
order to differentiate the Open Season soundtrack from this
year’s CG comedy eat-all-you-can, Open Season turned
to former The Replacements frontman Paul Westerberg for some
street credibility with the man-child target audience. Not
a bad choice as Paul Westerberg is this gaunt floppy-hair
indie rocker that looks like he can do a James Blunt –
his 2004 album was actually named “Folker” (wow,
tough guy). The
singer-songwriter went on to force his Bon Jovi voice onto
the standard fare of cartoon catchy ditties, the product sounding
like a jaunty Elton John trying to act cute with the kids.
He sounded okay in country rock tunes like “Meet Me
in The Meadow” and “Wild Wild Life” but
mauled his more intriguing songs like “Right to Arm
Bears” and “I Belong” with inane spouting
such as “the constitution is an institution” and
“I can’t bear to say goodbye that’s why
I say so long”.
All
in all, Open Season is appropriately to the subject matter
but you have heard it all before.
