REVIEW
Right
from the opening monologue by Iris (Kate Winslet), I was already
making a list of female friends to send a copy of The Holiday
Dvd. Although this group of friends don’t share the
specific set of man problems that both protagonists were experiencing,
I’m pretty sure that they will be able to relate the
agony that Iris and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) are going through.
Folks
who been through similar love lost or find it impossible to
find true love in their surroundings will also be able to
relate to this movie. It dug out a lot of issues and self
awareness that individuals might have, that prevented them
from having a lasting relationship or finding the right one.
The Holiday also gives you some useful tips on what to do
and what not to do in a relationship. Especially for the Guys,
do take note on what not to say during break up, even when
it’s really over
Besides
scoring as a romantic comedy, extra points have to be given
for the infusion of movie making elements into this lovely
tale. Elements such as trailers and musical soundtrack were
given a little spotlight in this usually forgotten and “taken
for granted” ingredient of movie magic that we experienced.
Watch out for those moments when the Trailer Voice Over Man
started to narrate Amanda’s life and when Miles (Jack
Black) explained to Iris on how some soundtracks help make
their respective films great. While it’s not exactly
101 on how to cut a trailer or create a musical score, it
does highlight to the casual viewers on their importance in
the whole film package.
And
of course it does help to have a veteran like Hans Zimmer
and his amazing ability to create the light hearted fluffy
musical scores that will gently sweep you off your feet, pretty
much like what love will do to you.
One
of the lines that Iris quoted in the opening monologue was
Shakespear’s “Journeys ends in lovers meeting”.
There’s no better line to be used to summaries what
the whole move is about, an entertaining romantic road trip
drama that will make you believe that no matter how bad your
love life might be now, there just might be someone further
down the road that could be the one to change all that and
all you need is do is to some traveling.
A
Little Extra note: This Dvd also comes with a Home Exchange
coupon that helps save on the membership cost. That’s
will come in particularly useful if you are fascinated with
what the lead actresses did in this movie.
