SYNOPSIS:
It’s A Boy Girl Thing is a high-jinx romantic comedy
about next-door neighbours who live worlds apart. Woody Deane
and Nell Bedworth, life-long sworn enemies, wake up one day
to find themselves in a very strange place: each others bodies.
In their switched identities, each sets about to destroy the
other’s high school reputation. When they start to succeed
they get more than they bargained for. Sometimes falling in
love can be an out of body experience.

REVIEW
This UK/Canadian production belongs to a genre more
commonly known as 'Body-swapping'. Can you recall movies such
as "Freaky Friday", "The Hot Chick" or
our local "Just Follow Law" where a man’s
soul is transfer to a woman’s body and vice versa? Coincidentally,
"Vice Versa" happens to be a 1988 movie about a
father and son exchanging bodies but we shall leave the discussion
till next time.
In
"It’s a Boy Girl Thing", Nell and Woody, two
long-time fiends mysteriously had a body-swapping experience
while out on a school excursion to the museum. Nell for the
record is a smart, aspiring Yale graduate dubbed 'pencil-neck
virgin' whatever that means while Woody is the typical big
dumb jock who plays in the school football team.
The
movie wastes no time in letting off anatomy-related pranks,
gratuitous nudity and coarse language, guarantee to make you
giggle at least once at the silliness in the short 95 minutes
running time. Samaire Armstrong and Kevin Zegers who plays
Nell and Woody respectively seem to be having a ball of a
time playing it off.
Coupled
by people liked Sharon Osbourne who played Woody’s foul-mouth
mother and Mpho Kaoho as his best friend, the supporting cast
add on to the madness and rowdiness to an otherwise generic,
plain script.
The
'Body Swapping' gimmick has been done so many times in film
history that you wonder is there anything new onscreen to
while your time and money. If you are a fan of "American
Pie", then you should lap up "It’s A Boy Girl
Thing" for all the 'penis-tits-bush' humour.
And
do you know Sir Elton John actually executive produce this?
Don’t blink, yes it’s that Elton John.
