SYNOPSIS:
After Nick Persons brings his new wife Suzanne and her two
kids to live with him in his bachelor pad apartment, he soon
realizes there just isn't enough space for them all. With
a new baby on the way, the Persons family leaves city life
behind for the wide-open country. Unfortunately, their dream
house starts to fall apart around them so Nick tries to do-it-himself-
and ends up in over his head. But when he hires wacky contractor
Chuck whose unorthodox methods only make the destruction worse,
the Persons wonder if they'll ever call this house a home.

REVIEW
There’s
an urban legend that says some movies are meant for critics
and the rest are made for the general audience. “Are
We Done Yet?” obviously is aimed at the latter.
A
sequel to the surprise hit of 2005, “Are
We There Yet?”, this instalment has Ice Cube and
Nia Long reprising their characters and boy, they are in for
some unexpected surprises when they moved in to their supposedly
dream home.
The
first one has Cube‘s irritating step-kids on that long
road trip as the main draw. This one has John C. McGinley
(that gay cop from “Wild
Hogs”) as a man who wears many hats literally. First,
he appeared as the town’s estate agent then he’s
the contractor, he’s also a mid-wife and a runner and
a basketball player who rubbed shoulders with Magic Johnson.
You can’t blame McGinley’s enthusiastic performance
in fact he’s pretty good as the wacky Chuck. But to
rely on him for the full 90 minutes feature film can be a
stretch.
Ice Cube’s
Nick Persons is a good responsible family man who tries hard
to provide and protect his step-kids and wife. Unfortunately,
the filmmakers turned him into an absolute walking stupidity
that we find it hard to laugh at his misfortunes. And yes,
I did pity him more than anything else.
If seeing
Ice Cube falling off from his roof, hammering his hand and
getting mobbed by bats is funny; “Are We Done Yet?”
is definitely your cup of tea. Director Steve Carr even throws
in some cute raccoon and squirrel to amuse the kids (we guess
he’s still in the “Dr Dolittle 2” mode).
Like
I said earlier, this one is not meant for serious moviegoers
who appreciate a better spent 90 minutes of their life.
