SYNOPSIS:
Alex owns a small restaurant in Paris along with Julien his younger brother and Camille his best friend. Just as he is about to settle down with Claire, he happens to run into Jeanne his first love. She's back in Paris visiting her mother after a 12 year hiatus. Can a relationship that was impossible in the past work this time round?
MOVIE REVIEW :
Nobody in the movie industry can shot a romance movie liked the French do. Complex relationships issue, siblings problems...every issue is so mundane yet it's so brutally real and bare to the audience's eyes.
The protagonist, Alex looks like he possessed everything in the world. He runs a cosy successful restaurant and have a close-knit family which consists of his pretty young girlfriend and brother. But all the peace-loving is shattered when his former girlfriend, Jeanne appeared in his life after leaving him for a man she now loathe 12 years ago.
It was supposedly be just a one-time fling between the both of them. Similar to most of us who has this weird desire at times to wound back the clock to spend some time with your ex-girlfriend or lover. And this is what Alex and Jeanne was planning to do. A rendezvous to fulfill unfinished answers deep buried in their hearts. Unfortunately, the human hearts tend to be a bit playful at times and things start to get carried away. To make matter worse, Alex's girlfriend is pregnant with his child and even his brother is breaking away from his so-called protection and concern.
"I've Been Waiting So Long" boasts neither the usual gorgeous cast normally seen in Hollywood romance stuff. Although far from the looks of Jennifer Aniston or Meg Ryan, Nathalie Baye who plays Jeanne is wrenching and at the same time mesmerising as the tortured Jeanne. Her natural aura as an actress defines her as one of the finest in French cinema. Patrick Bruel (who is a singer in France) complements as the stumped Alex.
Without the usual gratuitous sex scenes normally found in French movies, "I've Been Waiting for so Long" is a nice emotionally-driven romance journey. Undeniably the compelling performances from the cast adds to it as well.
SPECIAL FEATURES :
As compared to it's Region 2 counterpart which had making-of segments and cut scenes, this version contains nil special features. Pity...
AUDIO:
The
DVD comes in both French Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.0. Seriously, you don't
really need digital sound for this genre.
VISUAL:
The
colours presented are rich and lush especially the Italy's countryside settings.
Blacks are rich in depth during the night scenes. Overall, an excellent
transfer without any visible artifacts.
