SYNOPSIS:
An super-cool handsome guy is going out with me! But his blood type is "B"... what the hell! Ha-mi is a college student who believes in predestined love. One day she meets Young-bin on the street and instantly feels that he is the one. However, Young-bin is such a heartthrob and his blood type is "B", which is believed as the must-avoid type by many women! Despite her cousin's objection, Ha-mi falls for him because of his aggressive wooing.
MOVIE REVIEW :
Is
there such a thing as blood types involved in romance? Director and writer
Choi Seok-won seem to think so. In this romantic comedy, puppy eyes Lee
Dong-gun plays Young-Bin, a charming young man with blood type "B".
The only thing is he is selfish and arrogant, at the same time talented
and a die-hard romantic.
The plot is almost straight-forward. 15 minutes into the movie, we have
the two leads, Young-Bin and Ha-mi (Han Ji-hye) falling in love after a
handphone mishap. Ha-mi is an innocent type "A" girl with simply
no luck in the area of where love is concerned. So when she met Young-Bin,
she believes it's fate that bring them together.
Although Choi tried his best to squeeze every logical connection and explanation
on the issue of the various blood groups (as what the title implies). He
fails to revive this movie from falling into typical romantic comedy ground.
Seriously, you can feel he's cramming his way through the last 30 minutes
of the running time.
Undeniably, it's the leads who shared sizzling chemistry together that keeps
the movie going. Both Lee and Han who has acted in several well-known Korea
dramas are perfect for the roles. Lee is natural in portraying his role
as a type "B" man. Look out for his hilarious attempt at getting
back at Han's lecturer for being nasty to her earlier. Another role that's
worth mentioning is Shin-ee who plays Han's cousin. Instantly funny and
memorable performance she gave whenever she appeared onscreen. Most probably,
you will know the true meaning of the letter "B" after her rib-tickling
speech when she first met Young-bin.
At the end of the day, the female audience will be smitted by the lovey-dovey
Lee Dong-gun and the snazzy shots of Lotte World (Not surprising since the
movie is funded by the Lotte Group). As for the guys audience, you can learnt
the different tactics on how to woo girls from the charming Young-bin. If
you possess the courage to sing below your lover's balcony that is. Don't
ever attempt to walk out of the movie like what Young-bin did if you feel
bored. Your female companion will much appreciate this.
SPECIAL FEATURES :
A rather barebone dvd. Only the original movie trailer is included. As a consolation, you get two "My Boyfriend Is Type B" coasters free with this disc.
AUDIO:
The
movie is presented in Korea Dolby Digital 2.0 only. But it is audible and
clear enough for the dialogues to be heard.
VISUAL:
Colour seem to play an important part in this movie. A rainbow of colours are presented in almost each shot. Fortunately, the disc transfer is of high brilliance level and it greatly enhance the viewing pleasure.
