ALBUM REVIEW:
Back when we were young, William Shakespeare’s Romeo
+ Juliet had to be the coolest show in town. I mean, what
else is Claire Danes famous for? R + J is gothic, it is pretty,
and it has great music. It even made the iambic pentameter
cool again.
Featuring
radio-friendly hits such as the Class 95 favourites “Lovefool”
and “You and Me Song” as well as the less friendly
Garbage and Radiohead, the soundtrack is wonderfully diverse
and packs a powerful emotional punch in Des’ree’s
“Kissing You”.
Sadly
though, while the music stayed the same I personally have
moved on. The music seems to have lost its relevance and thanks
to insidious radio overkill, some of the abovementioned tracks
are downright cringe-inducing. Let it be known, however, that
this soundtrack did set the bar high when it was first released
and not many albums have surpassed its simple pop accessibility
since then.
ALBUM RATING:
Recommended Track: (6) Whatever
