REVIEW
There is this mysterious force which makes us enjoy Bollywood
tunes, even though we have no idea what the lyrics mean. When
you find yourself tapping your feet and nodding to the rhythm
of these infectious tunes on the album, you know that it is
a soundtrack you’d be spinning in your player quite
frequently.
Krrish
is the latest big budget Bollywood blockbuster to reach our
shores, and it is largely funded by the Singapore Tourism
Board. The spectacular movie features the titular hero flying
across Lau Pa Sat in Tanjong Pagar and gliding down the Fountain
of Wealth at Suntec City. Thankfully, the tunes on this 43-minute
soundtrack do not have any “Singaporean-flavour”
in them. The songs are reminiscent of those you heard from
a Bollywood production you last watched.
Four
of the five songs on this album are melodious love tunes.
The opening track “Pyaar Ki Ek Kahani” literally
means “Come, let me tell you a story about a boy and
a girl”. If this does not evoke sweet and lovey-dovey
images of the two leads dancing and singing, we don’t
know what will. The rest of these romantic tunes are accompanied
by lovely strings, and equally lovely vocals. You know what
they say - music knows no boundaries.
In
the film, the fast and energetic number “Dil Na Dya”
is set inside a circus, and if you have watched it, you’d
be finding yourself wanting to twitch those hips like the
hunky Hrithik Roshan. It is definitely one guilty pleasure
to listen to again and again.
It is a pity though, that this album does not feature any
of the brilliant orchestral score tracks composed by Salim-Sulaiman.
It would have complemented the songs on the album very nicely.
Other than the five enjoyable songs, the album also includes
two remixes, which if serve no other purpose, will make great
tunes to play at your next party.
