SOUNDTRACK REVIEW:
After the phenomenal success that was High
School Musical (2006), Disney Channel wasted no time in churning
out another television-movie, which is a sequel to the musical
hit The Cheetah Girls (2003).
Of
course, a movie like that warrants a soundtrack album to re-live
those glittery moments on celluloid.
The
palette of music found in this 42-minute disc includes a nice
mixture of rock, pop, rhythm and blues and hip hop. Featuring
performance by The Cheetah Girls themselves (the bubbly Raven-Symone,
the cutesy Adrienne Bailon, the wide-smiled Sabrina Bryan
and the leggy Kiely Williams), the tracks found on this album
will please anyone who has seen the movie on Disney Channel.
The
girls sing like powerhouse divas, with their broad and impressive
vocals. It’s like Dreamgirls for the kids. You can even
see them strut their stuff in a bonus studio session included
in this enhanced disc.
Unlike
the music on the High School Musical soundtrack, the songs
here have a more contemporary sound which will appeal teenage
listeners. They also make for good standard hits on your favourite
pop radio station.
You
will find yourself tapping your feet and bobbing your head
to the two infectious tunes that open the album. “The
Party’s Just Begun” and “Strut” are
two songs that are screaming for a glossily choreographed
dance sequence filled with glitz and glamour.
The
rest of the disc plays out like a regular song album that
sounds somewhat repetitive, but as long as you are in the
mood to groove, this one is for you.
