Review:
To play Dodgeball, you have to remember the five Ds: Dodge,
Duck, Dip, Dive and err...Dodge!
Probably
most of us would recalled a game, which we used to play during
our younger days, called "Han-Tan Bola". Or do you
remember the "water bomb" game where you get a golden
opportunity to thrash the water bag on the
girl or guy you fancy? Well, Dodgeball brings back all those
fond memories filled with crazy fun and laughter!
The
story tells the charming but underachieved Peter LaFleur (Vince
Vaughn), where the gym he owns, Average Joe's, is in the midst
of a takeover bid by
gym super powerhouse, White Goodman (Ben Stiller), owner of
the public listed Globo Gym. The only term of redemption,
set by the egoistic, self-indulgence maniac,
White Goodman: "Pay $50 000 or the gym is mine!"
In
order to save Average Joe's, Peter, together with his gym
regulars of "Average Joes" plus a gorgeous attorney
Kate Veatch (Christine Taylor), have to compete in the dodgeball
competition, where the Champion will take
home a cash price of $50 000! Average Joe's team no doubt
looks like a bunch of clowns giving only three weeks of impromptu
training in Dodgeball. But their true spirits lies in their
ability to surprise the audience and kick off a good show
usually only when the last man is standing in the court. Through
the gruesome battle, these "Average Joes" with serious
inferiority complex problem ultimately
learn how to straighten their back and break their opponent's
neck!
The
result? Well, the movie title tells it all. The Underdogs
"Average Joe's" won the competition and bring home
more than what they had asked for. The plot of this movie
is undisputedly paper-thin. However, the idea of
featuring Dodgeball on the big screen is original and with
the comical presence of Ben Stiller, get ready for a hearty
laugh throughout the movie!
