Synopsis:
Deuce (Rob Schneider) is seduced back to his unlikely pleasure-for-pay
profession when Hicks, (Eddie Griffin) his former pimp, is
implicated in the murders of Europe’s greatest gigolos.
Now Deuce must go back “undercover” in order to
clear the name of his good friend. Along the way, he must
compete against the powerful European Union of prosti-dudes
(The Man-Whore Society) and court yet another bevy of abnormal
female clients, including the beautiful Eva (HANNA VERBOOM),
who suffers from acute obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Watching
“Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo” is akin to opening
the Pandora’s box. Brace yourself for what’s coming
to you and lower your expectations. This time round, our naïve
fish tank cleaner, Deuce Bigalow has to go undercover to save
his friend, T J Hicks when he’s implicated in the murders
of Europe’s greatest gigolos. It’s already bizarre
enough to include a so-called European Union of prosti-dudes
and by prominently portraying Amsterdam as the capital for
legalized drug use and prostitution, you know why good old
Disney decides to drop the sequel (even though the original
grossed over $100 million worldwide) and Columbia picked it
up instead.
Shot on
locations such as Amsterdam and Spain in favour of the usual
soundstages. “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo”
surprisingly boasts some of the finest landmarks in Europe
ever captured for a Hollywood production. For a comedy, it’s
a first.
But of
course, it is insane to focus on the visual and cinematography
for a comedy genre. The audience is more concerned on the
laugh factors. For the story bit, the original was all about
the innocent Deuce Bigalow trying his best to earn a living
but somehow got himself into trouble time and time again.
An old fashioned tale mixed with some funny gags. This sequel
however, tries to work the other way round, filling the thin
plot with crude humour, fart jokes, nude bits and to think,
Rob Scheider spent a year co-writing this piece of work. To
make things worse, most of the funny bits have been disclosed
in the clip.
Still,
there are a few laugh-out scenes littered thoughout (the parody
of the Oscar award is one) and if you have not been subjecting
yourself to gross-out body fluids gags plus jokes containing
huge (pardon the pun) references to private areas, I suggest
you should stop reading this review and proceed on.
The
problem with Rob Scheider in “Deuce Bigalow: European
Gigolo” is no matter how hard he tried to crank up the
laugh factor, the jokes ended up liked segments extracted
from the late Benny Hill’s shows. Even the latter is
a much worth gem to watch on television. The jokes are pathetically
veered towards offensive territory rather than rib-tickling.
Well, who can forget Rob’s longtime producer friend,
Adam Sandler? He appears in a blink-and-you-missed cameo.
Hollywood
is definitely not a breeding ground for creative talents.
But having too much recycled gags in a movie really put the
audience off. It’s a pity “Deuce Bigalow: European
Gigolo” chose the easy way out. The same ho but seriously
a new low.
