MEDIACORP RAINTREE PICTURES announces new CNY movie DANCE DANCE DRAGON
Riding on the success of their CNY movie 'It's A Great Great World', Mediacorp Raintree Pictures and Boku Films are once again teaming up to present yet another CNY movie come Jan 2012. Titled 'Dance Dance Dragon', the film boasts a star-studded local cast including Adrian Pang, Kym Ng and Dennis Chew, as well as Malaysian artistes Lai Ming and Melvin Sia.
Written by Kelvin Tong and Marcus Chin from a story by Kelvin, Raintree Pictures Managing Director Man Shu Sum and veteran TV director Kat Goh, it tells the story of Mother Loong (Lai Ming) who desires to have a grandchild. However, none of her three children- the eldest (Dennis Chew's famous or infamous Auntie Lucy) who has just been ditched; the middle tomboy daughter (Kym Ng) or the youngest son who has been married for 10 years- have plans for any children. Things change for the Loongs on the first day of the Year of the Dragon when a newborn boy is found on their doorstep.
Kat, who will make her feature film directorial debut on this movie, said: "Since young, I have always enjoyed Chinese New Year films as they are festive occasions when the entire family bonds in a cinema. To have Dance Dance Dragon - a Chinese New Year movie - as my debut film therefore comes as an absolute delight for me. I can't wait to bring my parents to the cinema this coming Chinese New Year."
At the press conference to announce their movie, Kat was in attendance with her three lead actors- Adrian, Kym and Dennis. Of Adrian and Kym's pairing, Kat said that she thought the pair have great chemistry with each other from working with them in 'Durian King' back in 2004. When asked if it took any convincing for Adrian to return to a Chinese-language project, Kat added that Adrian accepted the role immediately when he was offered, and that was before reading the screenplay.
'Dance Dance Dragon' joins an already crowded CNY marketplace including Jack Neo's 'We Not Naughty', Jay Chou and Nicholas Tse's 'The Viral Factor', Tony Leung Chiu Wai's 'The Great Magician', Donnie Yen and Louis Koo's 'All's Well Ends Well 2012' and another TVB-studded HK comedy. The box-office pressure is definitely there, Kat said, but she has confidence both in her cast and in the story she wants to tell, and she hopes the good word-of-mouth that helped make 'It's A Great Great World' such a runaway success will similarly propel 'Dance Dance Dragon' to great heights.
'Dance Dance Dragon' is slated to debut in cinemas 19 Jan 2012, and is distributed by Cathay-Keris Films.
