BOOK REVIEW:
"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just
how we play the hand."
--Randy Pausch
Not
everyone possessed the courage Professor Randy Pausch had.
Despite being diagnosed with terminal cancer and left with
only a few months to live, he delivered his last lecture in
front of an audience of 400 in the autumn of September 2007.
A lecture
not about his impeding death but a lecture about living.
The computer
science professor at Carnegie Mellon was no different from
any man from the streets. Yes, the man had a PhD but like
any married man, he has three lovely kids, a beautiful wife
and parents in his own words, people that allowed him to dream
since he was young.
Some cynics
claimed this is just a publicity stunt. To hell with that,
why a man like him should pulled such a thing. How much monetary
reward can a dying man reap in such short notice?
As compared
to many motivational writers out there, Professor Randy Pausch
speaks genuinely from his heart simply because he’s
been there, the childhood dreams he had and the hard work
he put in to materialize those dreams. Some of the anecdotes
he shared with us were tongue-in-cheek, touching and at times
silly. Believe it or not, he loves to win stuff animals at
fairs and he’s going to have a cameo role in the new
J.J. Abram’s new Star Trek movie. The journey of his
life is coming to an end but you don’t see it coming
during those chapters.
This book
is only around 200 pages but it’s something that truly
strikes you to the core and certainly will inspire you to
change the outlook of your life.
Professor
Randy Pausch passed away on the morning of July 25th, 2008
but his celebrated last lecture lives on.
CHOICE XCERPT:
The whole book.
VERDICT:
For a $18 book, the lessons you received is a lot
more than the money spent .
